Chuck prepares to run:
Chuck is already gearing up in preparation for the election in 2004.
Mary Gallegos, after narrowly defeating Chuck in the 2002 general
election, has chosen to follow the far right agenda of the neo-conservative
movement at every opportunity. Chuck is a moderate Democrat who would
love to see a cooperative, bipartisan legislature like the ones that
made Oregon the pride of the nation, not the partisan and suffocating
Republican controlled legislature that we have today. With that in
mind, Chuck has once again decided to throw his hat in the ring and
try to bring common sense and moderate politics to District 29 and
to the Oregon House of Representatives.
Hillsboro 4th of July Parade:
Chuck, his family and several volunteers will be marching in the
parade again this year, and if last year was any indication, Chuck
will not really be marching, but shaking hands, greeting parade watchers,
and then running to catch up. It's quite an event, so come on out
and see the biggest 4th of July parade in Oregon. Better yet, come
out and walk with Chuck!
Vacation first, then work, work, work:
Chuck and his wife Katie will be leaving the day after the parade
for a well deserved vacation. They will return home on or about August
13, after making a great loop through 17 states visiting friends and
family and seeing the sights. When they get back, Chuck will begin
in earnest, gathering volunteers, raising money, and meeting voters,
not necessarily in that order.
Event coordinator:
Michelle Thurber has volunteered to coordinate house parties and
other fund raising events for the campaign. Michelle has gained much
valuable experience in event planning and fundraising in her work
with nonprofits, political activism, and prior campaign work. She
will be a valued member of the team, and will serve on Chuck's "kitchen
cabinet".
Quote of the week:
"I think this race will be harder in many ways, but easier in
many as well. After doing the analysis of the 2002 election, I know
where to work to get the votes. Money will be harder to come by, but
I think I know better how to reach those folks whose votes will put
me over the top." - Chuck Riley, candidate for HD29.
